Alive...and look! I made something!

It's been a rough week.  Rough, rough, rough.  I haven't responded well to it, and in turn it hasn't been doing me any favors.  I had some very cranky little people around my house tonight so for my sanity and theirs, I put them to bed a little early and I holed up in my little studio and made something.  My sewing machine hasn't gotten much use in the last 6 months.  Poor old girl.  But I gave her a little something to do tonight.  I have this bookmark list of all these crafty and DIY projects that I've seen in random places.  It's probably got 100 things in it.  I marked one off the list.  And now I want to make about 100 of them because I think it's super cute.

It's a business card or gift card or even photo holder if you want.  I'm going to be using it for my cards for photography, but whatever use is handy, go for it.

So here's what I started with:

This tutorial  over at Blue Cricket Designs.

I tweaked it a little bit to make it my own.

I used:

2 pieces of fabric at 5 1/2" x 4 1/2"
2 pieces of fabric at 2 1/2" x 4 1/2'
1 piece of fusible interfacing at 5 1/2" x 4 1/2"
and 2 pieces of fabric at 3" x 1 1/2"
Plus 2 small pieces of velcro

Here's just a simple picture of what I used.

And here is how it turned out.  I am pretty excited to get my cards printed out so I can stuff some in here and put this baby in my purse.  But step one is complete.

This is the inside:

I followed the tutorial almost exactly, but instead of doing the button and hairband closure, I made a velcro closure by sewing the 1 1/2 " pieces together right sides facing and then turned it inside out, attached the velcro and then stuck it inside the little sandwich of the 2 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch pieces with the velcro facing down and then sewed around the edges and turned it and sewed around it again to close the opening.  I can do a step by step if anyone wants to see, so just let me know.
All folded up:

Loving the polka dots.  Loving the gray. Happy to be crafting.  Happy to have some me time.  And really, it's about time for some happy!

Hope you are having a good week!
